In 1996, Ali began studying Hapkido, the art in which he has chosen to concentrate his martial arts training. On April 21, 1997, Ali received his first-degree black belt from the International Hapkido Federation. On April 21, 2000, he received his second-degree black belt, followed by a third-degree black belt on June 10, 2002.

Ali Al-Nasser is the founder and president of Ji Yong Kwan, which is headquartered in Redondo Beach, California. Ji Yong Kwan is an officially registered member school approved by Myung Sung Kwang (Registration No. 1469). Ali has been officially appointed an instructor by the International HKD Federation (Certificate No. 210500).
